Medicinal Value

Cloves have many beneficial effects for both medicine and wellness.

  • Cloves are known to contain active components that have qualities that make them effective as antioxidants, anti-septics, local anesthetics, anti-inflammatory agents, rubefacients (warming and soothing), carminatives, and anti-flatulents.
  • The seasoning has essential oils that are beneficial to one’s health, like as eugenol. It belongs to the class of chemical compounds known as phenyl-propanoids and is responsible for the pleasant, sweet, and aromatic qualities of clove buds. Due to the fact that eugenol possesses both antibacterial and local anesthetic qualities, it is effective in both the fundamentals of dental care and the treatment operations itself.
  • The other important constituents in this spice include: essential oils: acetyl eugenol, beta-caryophyllene and vanillin, crategolic acid; tannins: gallotannic acid, methyl salicylate (painkiller); the flavonoids: eugenin, kaempferol, rhamnetin, and eugenitin; triterpenoids: such as oleanolic acid, stigmasterol and campesterol and several sesquiterpenes.
  • The active components of the clove have the potential to not only boost the motility of the gastrointestinal tract but also to aid digestion by elevating the release of enzymes from the gastrointestinal tract. Thus, beneficial for those suffering from indigestion as well as constipation.
  • The seasoning also includes a respectable quantity of minerals, including magnesium, potassium, manganese, iron, and selenium. Potassium is an essential electrolyte that is found in cell fluids and plays a key role in the regulation of both heart rate and blood pressure. The antioxidant enzyme known as superoxide dismutase requires manganese in order to function properly as a co-factor in the body.
  • In addition, the spice buds have exceptionally high levels of vitamin A and beta-carotene in their composition. It is well established that these chemicals possess antioxidant effects. In addition to being necessary for keeping healthy mucus membranes and skin, the body also needs vitamin A in order to keep its vision functioning properly. Consuming natural foods that are high in flavonoids is one way to help protect the body from developing malignancies of the lung and oral cavity.
  • In addition, this seasoning is a rich source of several essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin K, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin C, vitamin B1, and riboflavin. The development of resistance in the body against pathogenic agents and the scavenging of damaging oxygen-free radicals are both assisted by the consumption of foods rich in vitamin C.
